This week’s focus: Which strategies get implemented? The answer is simple: the strategies that are subject to follow through from the chief executive or the organisation’s leader. It’s not those with the most thorough and detailed plans, those with most innovative ideas or those with biggest budgets; it’s those with the most consistent follow through.

When I look at the strategies that have succeed versus those that have failed, the distinguishing factor is the leader’s willingness and discipline to hold their people to account, to request updates, to ask questions and to maintain their team’s focus and pace. This task may not be that exciting or clever, but it is effective. Every time.

What are the consistent actions that you’re taking to follow through on the delivery of your organisation’s strategy?

Off the record: I Walk The Line by Johnny Cash

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine

I keep my eyes wide open all the time

I keep the ends out for the ties that bind

Because you’re mine, I walk the line
