This week’s focus: The quickest route to commitment is via involvement. I’m currently working with a couple of executive teams that are not only looking to develop their strategy, but also wish to increase their teams’ commitment to the emerging strategy and associated plans.

Many executive teams see this as a communication task, but although this can improve awareness and understanding, it will not necessarily build ownership, engagement and commitment. It’s far better, instead, to involve your managers and teams in the processes and ask them to determine how your strategic objectives and priorities can best be delivered. You might be pleasantly surprised at the ideas that come back.

Where are you seeking to communicate your strategy when, instead, you should be looking to spread involvement, engagement and commitment?
