This week’s focus: The continuing stream of bad economic news is enough to make even the most optimistic business leader focus solely on getting through the next few weeks and months, and worry about future years later. And yet, if you want to continue to grow your business beyond the next 12 months you need to be working on the necessary growth initiatives now.

At my best clients I see managers and executives with clear ownership of growth agendas and programmes for the next 2-5 years. Without similar levels of ownership and commitment you will only ever have 12-month plans and, even if the economy suddenly improves, that means you’ll only ever have incremental growth.

Who owns your growth agenda for the next 2-5 years?
